What is an arborist and what do they do?

Trees are the oldest living species on our planet. Trees provide many health, social, environmental, and economic benefits and are, thus, essential to life.

Trees need regular specialist care and maintenance to optimize their benefits. A skilled, qualified arborist understands how to care for trees in a way that promotes their health and public safety.

Arborists have training and accreditation in all facets of tree care and maintenance. They also follow the established Australian standards required of arborists.

Arborists aid in reducing tree hazards and provide professional advice on tree issues and suggestions for maintaining their health. Furthermore, they know the different tree species, allowing them to care for trees effectively. They can also identify and address problems such as;

  • - Plant structure

  • - Diseases

  • - Nutritional requirements.

What an Arborist Does

Although an arborist's work might be varied, it typically entails the care and maintenance of trees in various ways.

Given that these tasks are often dangerous, a qualified arborist should handle them. Arborists use equipment that necessitates specialized knowledge to maintain and protect trees effectively, and it is thus crucial that one receives the necessary training.

Consulting & Advice

Most often, homeowners consult arborists for expert opinions on the health of their plants. Consultation may be on issues such as;

  • Advice on the trees that would grow best in the location

  • - Potential diseases and recommended treatment

  • - Potential hazards and risks

  • - Permission required for planting trees

  • - How to Prepare Formal Reports for Local authorities

Tree Removal

Felling a tree is usually a last resort when no other viable options exist. Situations necessitating tree removal include;

  • - Sick, dying, or dead tree

  • - A tree poses a danger to your home

  • - It prevents other trees from getting enough light

An arborist would help remove such trees before they cause harm. During the removal, the arborist will also ensure no damage to your property.

Lopping & Pruning

Tree trimming and lopping involve taking out branches and downsizing trees. These are often for safety or aesthetic reasons. If you use a novice for this purpose, you risk dying the tree. The more you take out of a tree, the greater the chance of excessively or incorrectly cutting. But a skilled arborist will perform the task professionally.

Emergency Service

You never know when a tree disaster brought about by earthquakes or storms may happen. These calamities may lead to tree accidents, such as damage to your home or electricity lines.

Arborists usually provide round-the-clock emergency tree services. When such accidents happen, they step in to control and prevent further damage. Their role is to restore normalcy as soon as possible.

Stump Grinding

The stump left behind after removing a tree might be obstructive and unsightly. Clearing the stamps can be challenging, particularly if they have strong roots anchoring them in place. Arborists use stump grinders to remove the portion of the stump that lies below the surface. They will also dig up the roots if they think they could help the tree grow again.

Mulching

Mulching is a cheap and effective strategy for plant maintenance. Mulches conserve moisture and nutrients in the soil for the healthy growth of plants. Arborists provide help with every part of the mulching process.

Conclusion

Despite the many benefits trees offer, they may bring harm if not well attended to. They might creep on homes or electricity lines, causing power outages and fatal falls in severe weather. A tree's health depends on adequate care and nutrition, just like a person's. A qualified arborist can provide such care and maintenance.
