Keep glowing: 5 tips for maintaining that stunning cosmetic dentistry

Whatever cosmetic dentistry you’ve undertaken - whether it be bonding, implants, veneers or something different - you want to keep your new teeth absolutely glowing.

After all, this type of dental work is not only designed to add a new level of oral protection, but also provide a gorgeous new aesthetic! Whilst undergoing the most outstanding cosmetic dentistry Melbourne has is the first step, you will have to do a few things on your own to ensure your new look stays superb.

Follow these five tips to make it happen:

  1. Brush twice daily

If you already do this, feel free to skip this part, but you may be receiving this type of dentistry because the old twice daily brush wasn’t originally part of your dental hygiene schedule.

Look, we get it: not everyone has made a habit of twice-daily brushing, but we dentists don’t say to do it for no reason - it is absolutely imperative to ensure proper dental hygiene and oral health, especially after receiving some life-changing cosmetic dentistry!

  1. Avoid the sticky stuff

Chewy and sticky food can be the best kinds of food. Choccy, lollies, juicy steaks, doughy bagels - they’re all pretty fabulous for our taste buds, but unfortunately they can do a real number on our recently treated teeth.

If you have just had work like an implant or veneers it is really important that you avoid the sticky stuff - the last thing you want is to have that brand new dental work yanked out by a deliciously ruthless piece of rib eye - trust us, it ain’t really worth it…

  1. Rinse after eating

This is one of those oral hygiene essentials that people unfortunately gloss over in daily life, but it’s really one of the easiest things you can do to maintain good oral hygiene especially after your treatment!

Think about it: how hard is it to gargle a little water upon finishing a meal? It’s the easiest thing you’ll ever do but it will go a long way to protecting your new treatment from discoloration or staining down the track.

Cosmetic dentistry is largely enlisted for its aesthetic benefits - don’t spoil them by allowing your teeth to discolour soon after receiving your brand new treatment!

  1. Avoid baking soda, but stick with whitening toothpaste

Baking soda toothpaste can be wonderful for already-sturdy dentures, but it is highly abrasive and can easily wear down the hard work that has just been undertaken on your teeth - avoid it at all costs!

I mean, that’s easy, after all, especially when you consider you can just easily pick up some fab whitening toothpaste instead. Whitening toothpaste is fantastic as it can help keep up that beautiful new aesthetic that no doubt was an important factor in receiving such treatment, so it’s just a winning option when in new teeth recovery mode…

  1. Invest in a nightguard if you’re a clencher

There are thousands of clenchers out there, and if you’re one of them and also receiving cosmetic dentistry it’s important to know this: invest in a nightguard! These awesome little pieces of dental tech are pivotal for protecting a clencher’s new treatment, as any nighttime clenching can be disastrous for most of these treatment types.

Ask your dentist for specific post-treatment care tips!

Every mouth is different, and each person is going to have different needs when it comes to caring for their dentures after this particular treatment. Speak to your dentist about what you need to do personally to ensure your gorgeous new smile stays that way for a long time to come…
