Pros and Cons of Cosmetic Surgery

Do you think the idea of getting a plastic surgery procedure? You want to improve your self-esteem, or want to look more beautiful? Or you need it for some medical reasons? Besides all these reasons, one thing is clear enough that cosmetic procedure stems from non-acceptance of our looks. If we like our features, we would never thing to change what we have.

Women typically are more conditioned to look attractive; they have more pressure to look good and skinny all over the globe. We have thousands of Photoshop images of women on billboards and magazines daily. Women consult renowned and very expensive cosmetic surgeons for surgery and willing to spend a heavy dollar amount for the surgery. Cosmetic surgeons like Dr William Mooney and some others in the cosmetic surgery world are renowned for their excellent work.

Today there are most common plastic surgery procedures;

Cosmetic Procedures

  • Face Rejuvenation using a laser, fillers, and Botox

  • Face-lifting

  • Liposuction

  • Rhinoplasty

Reconstructive Procedures

  • Treating Craniofacial abnormalities

  • Palate and cleft lip procedure

  • Reconstructing burnt tissues

  • Reconstructing damaged and severed limbs

Some of the common pros and cons of cosmetic surgery are penned below;

Pros of Cosmetic Surgery

  1. Gaining back self-esteem

Some people born with congenital disabilities like cleft palate, and that causes the major hindrance in speech. They sometimes find it hard to express what they have to say and sometimes their fellow kids tease them. Which is affecting them emotionally, and they feel low self-esteem as they are suffering from defects.

Also, some people have undergone a mastectomy, and some women are burn victims; and they are not comfortable to face people.

Here comes the plastic surgery that can help them in their bad even worst situations and patients can get back their self-esteem, and they start living as others do.

  1. Enhanced appearance

Cosmetic surgery utmost benefit is that it aligns your natural look with your needed appearance. If you have planned to go for cosmetic surgery, you should be sure that you desperately need a change. If you are done with cosmetic surgery once, your appearance will remain the same, and you have to live that improved version of your look. Plastic surgery can help those people who born with any congenital disability. And it is also helpful for those who are psychologically affected by their outer shell.

  1. Improvement in Confidence

You will automatically gain self-confidence after fixing your much-needed looks, and this is what everyone can feel in your personality. Cosmetic surgery is responsible for improving your social life as well as mental health. If you are confident in your looks, it has a positive impact on all aspects of your life. You will be more confident in your behavior while talking or communicating with people, and your insecurities about the physical outlook will be gone once forever. And this is going to be the best benefits one can get from cosmetic surgery that has passed their entire life being unhappy about their appearance.

  1. Enduring Results

One more advantage of cosmetic surgery is that its outcomes are permanent and long-lasting. And this is enough to reduce any worry of getting back your undesired looks after some time. Though you need to take care of yourself after the procedure to make its outcomes last forever. For instance, if you have gone through tummy tuck surgery, it is suggested to stick towards a healthy and active lifestyle else you will get more fatback, and it would be tough to get rid.

  1. Easy to Access

After getting more and more requests from clients, the health department decided to open more clinics to serve people who need it. And now this is comparatively easy to find clinics where cosmetic and plastic surgeries are done with confidence. And this is known as cosmetic tourism which has risen in the recent decade.

Cons of Cosmetic Surgery

  1. Can be Expensive

You need to have a lot of money to go through cosmetic surgery; it varies depending on the procedure you want to go. And this is the biggest problem for some people who don’t have enough money to spend on cosmetic surgeries. Some of the procedures needed multiple sittings to get the required outcome.

  1. Risks & Complications

Just like other major or minor surgeries, cosmetic surgery has the possibility of complications. Considerations must be kept in mind with preparations; the patient should be mentally and physically prepared for surgery. Choosing a surgeon should be totally up to the patient's choice as a simple mistake can lead to some serious difficulty.

  1. Mistakes can happen

There isn’t a 100% guarantee of required results after cosmetic surgery, but there are chances that can go opposite to the desired results. So one must be very much sure about what they needed and have proper research on the procedure. Because if once the procedure is done, it’s very difficult to regain the actual shape back.

For example, if a facelift procedure causes you nerve damage, this single problem can lead you to a facial paralysis for your lifetime. And this is nothing but a devastating damage one could have, so you need to be very sure about the results that might not be in your favor. Such mistakes are not fixable.

  1. Down Time

One of the most unfavorable factors that the patient could bear after cosmetic surgery and is downtime that can take a long time as suggested. The recovery time varies from person to person or procedure to procedure; it can last up to 2-3 weeks. It means that you would not be able to do your tasks after cosmetic surgery. It is not suitable for those who have jobs and some business where their physical presence is somewhat very important.

And yes there is another factor during post-surgery recovery that the patient has to bear; pain. Some painkillers can help you, but this is a major negative outcome after surgery.

Conclusion

These are some of the main pros and cons of cosmetic surgery that you need to know before making a decision. Do your research thoroughly, so you know the ins and outs of the procedure. There is nothing right or wrong; opting for cosmetic surgery is one’s personal choice. Some people claimed that cosmetic surgery had changed their lives in a better way, but some people said they have some unrealistic expectations about cosmetic surgery. Make sure that you are doing cosmetic surgery for the right reason and just for yourself.
