How To Get Rid of Bulky Household Items in Sydney

Large bulky household items can be a pain to get rid of. Because of their size, it may be complex to simply get them out of the household, let alone even understand the proper avenues of where or how to dispose of them.

There are a few different methods you can use to get rid of bulky household items, depending on what the item is and where it is located. Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1. Sell or donate the item

If the item still has some value, consider selling it online or through a classifieds site, or donating it to a charity or second-hand store. This is a great option if the item is large but lightweight, such as a piece of furniture or a small appliance.

Gumtree, eBay or Facebook’s Marketplace are great places to start if you’re considering going down this route of DIY.

Donating items that are still in good condition is also another great option. It’s important that you do some research online to check for suitable charities and donation initiatives before making the move.

  1. Hire a rubbish removal company

If you don't want to deal with the item yourself, you can hire a rubbish removal company to take it away for you. This is a good option for large, heavy items that are difficult to move or dispose of.

Most rubbish removal companies in Sydney offer same-day rubbish collection services. This means that they will organise a pickup time on the same day, providing the most convenient way of getting rid of your unwanted bulky item quickly.

  1. Recycle the item

If the item is made of plastic, metal, glass, or another recyclable material, take it to your nearest recycling centre. This is a good option for heavier items, such as a washing machine or an old TV.

Again, make sure that you check with your local centre before heading there to submit your bulky good. Every centre may have its own set of criteria, so always make sure yours is acceptable before you make your way.

  1. Take it to the dump yourself

If none of the other options is feasible, you can take the item to the dump yourself. Be sure to check with your local council beforehand to find out which dump accepts household rubbish. This is the last resort if you have no other options, as it can be expensive and time-consuming.

Whichever method you choose, be sure to dispose of the item responsibly and recycle or donate any usable parts or materials. By following these tips, you can get rid of bulky household items without any hassle.
